Her Interview
Ten minutes with Takara
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would attribute my success to my values rooted in resilience, faith, discipline, and consistency. Success isn't built when everything is going well but when I choose not to give up. Every obstacle has strengthened my character and prepared me for the next opportunity. I surround myself with people who challenge and encourage me to keep growing.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice is to advocate for yourself. Shirley Chisholm said it best: if they don't give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair. Always protect your reputation and never stop learning. Skills can be taught but integrity, work ethic, and how you make people feel define your career. Opportunities come because people trust you. Set boundaries to prevent burnout and create healthy work-life balance while putting family first.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Never underestimate the value of your voice. We need diverse perspectives and compassionate leaders in science and healthcare. Be confident enough to ask questions, humble enough to keep learning, and courageous enough to speak up when you can make a difference. Build relationships, seek mentors, and remember that bringing your true self and authenticity is one of your greatest strengths.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of our greatest opportunities is ensuring every patient has access to personalized treatment and advanced genomic testing regardless of where they live or their background. As innovation accelerates in the genomic field, collaboration across healthcare teams, education, and patient advocacy are becoming even more important. It's an exciting time to be part of this industry that's changing the way we transform and treat cancer patients.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Faith, purpose, integrity, excellent service, and resilience are my key values. Work-life balance is also important to me.
