Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a combination of adaptability, curiosity, and a willingness to embrace new challenges. I began my career in finance in 2012, and about a year and a half ago, I transitioned into operations. Today, I serve as Chief of Staff at AWS. Moving from finance to operations was a steep learning curve, but it has given me a deeper understanding of the business from multiple perspectives and allowed me to contribute in more strategic ways.

Before joining Amazon, I participated in a finance rotational program at a pharmaceutical company, which took me to Paris and Puerto Rico. Those experiences were invaluable, but I quickly realized the pace of drug development didn’t align with the level of career agility I desired. I wanted roles that offered flexibility, cross-functional learning, and exposure to different industries. This mindset guided me through finance and marketing roles outside of pharma and ultimately to Amazon. For me, career mobility is not just about upward movement—it’s about exploring new areas, developing diverse skills, and finding innovative ways to make an impact.

Currently, I am preparing to pursue an executive MBA at Howard University while planning to launch an AI consulting firm. Technology, data, and strategy are areas that excite me, and I see tremendous opportunities to help organizations implement AI thoughtfully and effectively. At this stage in my career, I also find it incredibly rewarding to mentor young professionals. I often reflect on the irony of once reaching out for opportunities myself, and now being in a position where talented professionals reach out to me. Being able to give back and support the next generation is one of the most fulfilling parts of my journey.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received has come from mentors who challenge me, open doors, and help me see my potential. Early on, my Aunt Lillian Collins guided me through the college application process, helping me become the first in my family to graduate from Virginia State University. Michael Rainey taught me time management and how to balance multiple responsibilities, and today, my mentor Omarosa continues to challenge my thinking and build my confidence. Mentorship has been invaluable in shaping my career, and I strive to pay it forward by supporting others.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the industry is simple: don’t be afraid to ask questions and commit to continuous learning. Read widely, seek out mentors, and embrace every opportunity to expand your knowledge. Curiosity and persistence are powerful tools—they will help you navigate challenges, grow your skills, and confidently make your mark.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that guide me in both my work and personal life are ambition, faith, and perseverance. Growing up in an environment with limited opportunities, I took it upon myself to achieve more than what my family could provide and never looked back. This drive led me to become the first recipient of a scholarship from the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), an achievement I’m incredibly proud of. As a worship leader, my faith remains a grounding force, reminding me that what is meant for me will find me, and it is mine.
