About Takisha

Takisha Pledger serves as an Eligibility Worker II with the working title of Technical Assistance for Los Angeles County, where she supports social workers in child welfare and foster care. In this role, she assists with locating suitable placements for children removed from their homes and prepares detailed placement packets that comply with state and federal regulations while also handling initial funding for foster care cases. Pledger began her career in social services in 1998 as a youth worker after her own experience as a former foster youth, and over 27 years she has advanced through various positions to her current role of three years. She earned a bachelor's degree in human resources management in 2000 and is completing a second bachelor's in psychology in September. Additionally, she holds certifications in computer information systems and information technology. Beyond her county work, Pledger engages in youth advocacy through the Youth Connection program, where she has contributed to California state legislation by promoting assembly bills that improve conditions for youth in care. She attributes her success to her willful nature, commitment to helping others, self-care practices to avoid burnout, and the support of her family, including her son and husband. Pledger advises against complacency in any role, encourages continuous growth to prevent burnout, and urges young women entering the field to pursue their goals without overthinking or delay.

Go for it. Don't overthink it. Just go for it. If it's in your heart to do and on your mind to do, just go for it. Go for it as soon as possible. Don't wait. The sooner the better.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Having a good ethical background, knowing when and when not to do certain things ethics-wise. Ethics and integrity. Family and friendships. Personal space because it gives you time to think about things, reflect, and grow.
