What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a combination of perseverance, adaptability, and a passion for helping others. My path began 23 years ago as a homeowner and evolved into managing multi-family properties, overseeing tenant relations, and coordinating contractors—a role that requires patience, precision, and strong leadership. My experience as a veteran legal professional, spanning 40 years as a court reporter and now a legal secretary, has also shaped my work ethic and commitment to excellence. I credit much of my growth to my dedication to advocacy and continuous learning, including my ongoing pursuit of certification in American Sign Language interpreting—a field that resonates deeply with me. Expanding into corporate housing has allowed me to create stability and comfort for others, which is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work. Beyond my professional life, volunteering has been a cornerstone of my journey. I have actively supported the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk for over two decades and contributed to community initiatives with Sadaqa House, reflecting my belief in giving back and making a positive impact wherever I can.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
ChatGPT said: I would advise young women entering the industry to have confidence in their skills and judgment, even when facing new or intimidating situations. It’s important to follow your passions while staying committed to continuous learning and professional growth. Seeking out mentors who can provide guidance, support, and perspective is also invaluable. I also emphasize the importance of planning and adaptability. The property management world, like any career, is full of unpredictable situations, and success comes from balancing careful preparation with the ability to pivot when necessary. Above all, my guidance is simple: take risks, embrace learning opportunities, and lead with integrity. These principles have guided me throughout my career and can help others navigate their paths with confidence and purpose.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is managing the unpredictability of people. You can have every plan in place, but people are always the variable. Whether negotiating lease renewals or handling sudden vacancies, I’ve had to develop patience and problem-solving skills that no training course could fully prepare me for. Working as a woman in a largely male-dominated industry has also presented challenges. Early on, contractors often underestimated my expertise, and I found myself having to prove my credibility repeatedly. Instead of backing down, I used those experiences as motivation to master every detail of my business—from the legal aspects of eviction to the financial logistics of multi-family property ownership. Other challenges include the isolation that can come with being both the business owner and the primary problem-solver, as well as navigating funding options. There’s no manual for this work—you just learn, adapt, and keep going, finding the strategies and solutions that work best for your business.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are integrity, responsibility, persistence, and resilience. I strive to treat tenants, contractors, and colleagues with fairness and respect, while taking full ownership of every aspect of my property management business—from leases and maintenance to financial oversight. I view challenges, whether operational or interpersonal, as opportunities to learn and grow rather than obstacles to fear. If I had to share my own best piece of advice, it would be: say yes before you’re ready. Growth doesn’t wait for perfect timing. Opportunities rarely arrive when we feel completely prepared—they appear when we’re meant to stretch. Whether it’s taking on a first big project, leading a new initiative, or navigating an unfamiliar platform, I’ve learned that confidence is built through action, not anticipation. Embracing challenges head-on has been a cornerstone of both my professional and personal development.
