About Tamala
Tamala Savage is a News Producer at CBS News based in the Washington, D.C. bureau. She entered the television news industry in 1995 and has held various roles including on-air reporting, field producing, and news producer positions at local stations before advancing to the network level. Her work centers on politics, covering Capitol Hill, White House briefings, and press conferences to deliver objective information to local TV stations. Savage has always been drawn to journalism and values the ability to tell stories that inform and help communities. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated, where she contributes to community service and social action efforts, and she is passionate about mentoring the next generation of journalists.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Especially for those that are in college, do your internships, do it in different areas of the newsroom. Networking is very important. You have to really be passionate about what you're doing. It's a public service job, and you have to be passionate and care about what you do, and be a storyteller that tells all sides.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The opportunities are plenty because now you have things going towards social media a lot more, and so there are a lot of opportunities, you just have to go out and find them.
