About Tamara

Tamara Elmasri serves as an interpreter with nine years of experience and as an educator in academia since 2015, based in Denver, Colorado. She focuses on language and culture education at the university level for both graduate and non-graduate students while acting as a cultural advocate who bridges gaps between cultures, particularly for military personnel relocating overseas and international students. Fluent in English, French, and Arabic, she holds an associate degree in translation from Islamic University in Beirut, a Bachelor in Business Administration from the University of Denver where she earned a scholarship and made the Dean's List, a Master's in International Relations and Global Issues, and is a PhD candidate in communication. Elmasri is a member of the American Translators Association and volunteers in the Arabic community in Colorado providing translation and legal assistance. She attributes her success to a strong family foundation and prioritizes family while being accessible and supportive to her students.

My upbringing and a strong family foundation that provides the base for conquering challenges in the world.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Know how to prioritize more pressing issues, organize everything, and give priority to family first then career because family is the foundation of any success.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't be too focused on your goal and enjoy the journey and every single step of the process.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Opportunities for learning about other cultures as the world becomes one big global village through communication expansion, reducing barriers that create conflict.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

In personal life, providing for family and being present for kids and parents. In career, being on time, present, reachable for students, making them feel like friends rather than just professor.
