Over the course of a 17-year career, she progressed from a kennel technician to leadership roles including ER/ICU Clinical Manager, Interim Hospital Director, and Hospital Manager, earning a reputation for clinical excellence, operational leadership, and strategic business growth. Along the way, she completed an Associate Degree in Veterinary Technology, graduated summa cum laude, earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, became licensed in multiple southeastern states, achieved Fear Free Certified Professional status, and received the prestigious 2024 Alabama Veterinary Technician of the Year Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the profession.

Throughout her career, Tamaran has combined medical expertise with strong business acumen, leading hospital operations, financial management, marketing initiatives, and team development while consistently delivering measurable improvements in profitability, efficiency, and community engagement. Her leadership has earned her numerous accolades, including nominations for Practice Manager of the Year, recognition with multiple leadership awards, and appointments as both a mentor for fellow practice managers and the South Alabama Representative for the Alabama Veterinary Technician Association. Driven by a commitment to lifelong learning, she has remained focused on elevating the veterinary profession by mentoring credentialed technicians, championing continuing education, and empowering support staff to build meaningful, sustainable careers.

Today, Tamaran serves as an Inside Business Coach, helping veterinary practices strengthen leadership, operations, and long-term success while continuing to advocate for excellence across the industry. She is also the founder and director of Hope & Hooves, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing animal-assisted and farm-based therapy for children with special needs, veterans living with PTSD, and survivors of trauma. Inspired by her professional experience and her personal journey as the mother of an autistic son, Tamaran believes that compassion, education, and servant leadership have the power to transform lives. Whether coaching veterinary professionals, mentoring the next generation of technicians, or creating healing experiences through the human-animal bond, she remains committed to making a lasting impact on both her profession and her community.

Ten minutes with Tamaran

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to discipline, resilience, and a commitment to lifelong learning. As a former collegiate softball scholarship recipient, I learned the value of hard work, preparation, and perseverance—qualities that have guided me throughout my 17-year career in veterinary medicine. Working in emergency and critical care has strengthened my compassion and resilience, while inspiring me to continually grow, mentor others, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of both my patients and colleagues.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received came from the mentors who believed in me and invested in my growth. They taught me that leadership isn’t about changing who you are—it’s about becoming the best version of yourself—and that the best professionals never stop asking questions or learning. Their guidance shaped both my clinical expertise and leadership style, and it continues to inspire my passion for mentoring the next generation of veterinary professionals.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Never place limits on your potential, and never stop learning. Stay curious, seek out mentors, ask questions, and take on opportunities that challenge you, even if they fall outside your comfort zone. Every experience—whether clinical, leadership, or even outside veterinary medicine—can teach valuable skills that will shape your career. Invest in yourself, embrace lifelong learning, and trust that your perseverance and willingness to grow will open doors you never imagined.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that matter most to me are compassion, integrity, continuous learning, and service to others. I believe true leadership is about helping people grow, sharing knowledge, and leading with empathy and accountability. Whether I'm mentoring veterinary professionals, coaching leaders, or serving my community, I strive to make a positive impact through kindness, resilience, and a commitment to lifelong learning. I believe that investing in others creates meaningful, lasting change.
