What do you attribute your success to?
I'm extremely headstrong - when I put my mind to something, failure is not an option. I really try to make sure that I lead and everything I do is with excellence, because that's the standard I hold myself to. I'm a New York City kid, and we grew up in a system where classrooms were ranked and you had to be in the top class to get the best teachers and access to the best resources. A lot of that is instilled in who I am today. When you move with excellence, good things come to you and you're rewarded. If you move sloppy, you get sloppy results, so I'm always just trying to make sure that I put excellence in everything that I do.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Listen to that voice. We all have a voice, and it's whispering sometimes to us, and sometimes we ignore it, and then the whispers become shouts, and then they become screams. Listen to it. That's your gut, that's your intuition, that's the ancestors whispering to you, telling you which way to go. You just sometimes have to be still and listen to that soft voice that's telling you to go after your dreams. And then when you dream, dream bigger, because it's still not big enough. You can have all the things that you want.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
From a personal scope in terms of my creative strategy work, it's really about that client outreach and maintaining consistent business flow. It's cyclical like any other business - January and February can feel a little soft with leads, and then all of a sudden everybody wants to have a project in June, and there are only 30 days in the month. I have quite a few repeat clients who have been so great in helping me establish my business and get my foundation made, but it's really about drawing in new clients and maintaining that steady pipeline throughout the year.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Transparency and integrity are at the core of everything I do. I really make sure that everything I'm doing is putting my best foot forward and representing my clients at 100%, making sure that they look their best. One of my early mottos was 'your vision is my passion,' and I really make sure that whatever my clients are visualizing is something that I'm passionate about bringing to life. That sits at the core of everything that I do - making sure I'm meeting their outcomes and that they're satisfied with the results.
