Her Interview
Ten minutes with Tamika
01What do you attribute your success to?
Absolutely God first, and then my family. God has blessed me with a lot of talents and a heart for humanity and wanting to help and pour into other people. I have a great support system. My family is always encouraging and motivating me to live out my purpose.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Stay encouraged along the journey. There'll be days where you want to just give up or it just feels like it's too much or the demands of life. But if you keep your eyes set on the goal and you stay encouraged along the journey, you can press forward no matter what comes your way.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't give up. Take a chance on you. Because a lot of time, it's fear that prevents people within my industry from becoming what they could actually become. And when it doesn't happen fast enough, they just run back to corporate. ... if they put the same investment of time, energy, into what they're doing to build their own business as they do for corporate, that they would see far more favorable results.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The challenge is that my team is lean and so we're very focused on delivering quality education. The challenge us from doing some of the things that we need to do internally to create greater visibility on a statewide level for our company. Visibility is one of the biggest challenges, and it's mostly attributed to the fact that I have the lean team. Between increase in funding growth, and increase in team, those will be challenges we'll be able to overcome.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I value integrity. I like people, I respect people that are people of their word. People who do what they say. People who are committed to whatever it is that they sign up for. The alignment or the order in which my value system goes is God, family, and then work. Having my life structured in that order keeps me in alignment, it keeps my peace, and it helps me to remember what's most important.
