Her Interview

Ten minutes with Tammy

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the strength, values, and resilience that were instilled in me by my parents, as well as my personal relationship with God. Some of the hardships and pain I experienced earlier in life have ultimately shaped my sense of purpose and helped me become the woman I am today. I draw my humility, love, and compassion for others from my mother, while my strength and resilience were greatly influenced by my father and the way I watched my parents navigate life.

My faith has also been an important part of my journey. My favorite verse, Romans 8:28, reminds me that all things can work together for good for those who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose. I believe that the experiences I have gone through have helped prepare me for the purpose I have today.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have received is, “Push, sweetheart,” meaning, “Pray until something happens.” That advice has stayed with me throughout my career, particularly during stressful or challenging moments. When I feel stuck, overwhelmed, or frustrated, I remind myself to keep praying, remain patient, and continue moving forward.

Working in accounting can be demanding, especially during particularly busy periods such as the fourth quarter. This advice reminds me that difficult seasons do not last forever. I have learned to keep pushing through challenges, trust the process, and allow my faith to guide me through difficult moments.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell young women that their dreams and aspirations can be achieved. It may not happen overnight, and it may not be easy, but that does not mean they should stop reaching for the goals that are in their hearts. The things that are worth having often require hard work, dedication, perseverance, and patience.

I would encourage the next generation to never give up, even when they experience setbacks or moments when they question whether they can succeed. Keep working toward your goals, keep your faith at the center of your journey, and continue pushing forward. When you eventually look back, you may realize that the challenges you faced helped shape the person you became.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the challenges I have experienced is a lack of recognition, along with difficulties coordinating schedules and timing when trying to establish contracts and complete business arrangements. These challenges can sometimes make it difficult to move opportunities forward as quickly as I would like.

At the same time, I see significant opportunities through the continued growth of new construction and development in the area. Building relationships with project managers and becoming involved with larger construction projects could create opportunities to expand my business, increase revenue, and hire more employees. One of my biggest goals is to increase visibility for my business so that I can create additional employment opportunities for people in the community while continuing to grow the company.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me are respect, honesty, the desire to succeed, and attention to detail. I am a very detail-oriented person, and I like to understand what is happening with every aspect of my work and keep things organized and on schedule. I believe that being thorough, responsible, and honest is important both in business and in my personal life.
