Her Story

About Tammy

Tammy Hamelin serves as Estimating Pre-Construction Manager at a construction firm, a position she has held for one year. With more than 20 years in the construction industry, she started as a project engineer, progressed to project manager, and worked extensively as an owner's project manager before shifting focus to estimating to reduce stress. She attended a technical high school where she studied Machine Tool and Die, then returned to school as an adult to earn a bachelor's degree in interior design, during which she took electives in project management and civil engineering that aligned with her career path. Her passion for architecture and interior design, combined with an internship in construction, led her into the field. Tammy attributes her success to never giving up and remaining persistent. She emphasizes the importance of work-life balance after years as a workaholic and advises others to be a sponge by learning from peers, shadowing them, and continuously acquiring new knowledge each day.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Tammy

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to never giving up. I'm very persistent and I just keep going.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Be a sponge. Learn from your peers, shadow them as much as you can, and just take in as much as you can. Keep learning something new every single day.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

There definitely has to be a work-life balance. For many years I did not have that. I just was work, work, work and I was a workaholic.
