About Tammy
Tammy May serves as a lead clinical nurse educator at Momentum Life Sciences, where she has worked for the past eight years. Based in Indianapolis, Indiana, she manages a client list and provides virtual outreach to patients, guiding them through the medication approval process, setting up shipments, and delivering injection training. Her approach emphasizes medication adherence and compliance alongside a holistic focus on diet, nutrition, physical activity, emotional impact, and stress management. Prior to her current role, May spent eight years in the operating room as a clinical professional and 15 years as a telephonic health manager at Accordant Health Services, part of CVS Health, where the flexible schedule allowed her to work from home while raising three children. She earned an associate's degree in nursing from Wilkes Community College in 2003 and a bachelor's degree in nursing from Appalachian State University in 2009. May credits her success to the unwavering support of her family, particularly her husband, which enabled her to pursue nursing school as an adult learner. She values being genuine, honest, and trustworthy in both her professional and personal life, and she plans to focus on volunteer and mission work following her retirement in three years.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Tammy
01What do you attribute your success to?
I honestly feel like it has been the support from my family. I couldn't have done it without my husband. I had 3 kids, went back to nursing school as an adult learner, and it takes your life over for years, but family support made it possible.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
You have to do what works best for you and your family. My mother had cancer and that's why I wanted to become a nurse. I went to nursing school as an adult learner, and being able to help people has been for me.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would honestly encourage anyone to go to nursing school. There are so many opportunities if you are younger. You can be a nurse practitioner, you can be a CRNA. The field is wide open. You can work from home, do hospital 12-hour shifts, set your schedule. Nursing is a calling, so you get to pursue what you value most and that's taking care of human beings.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Values for me is just being genuine, honest, trustworthy. I just think that that's the most important thing for me.
