About Tammy

Tammy Riley serves as a bus operator with CapMetro in Austin, Texas. In this role, she operates multi-passenger vehicles, transporting commuters from one end of the city to the other while ensuring passengers reach their destinations safely and on schedule. Riley brings to the position a CDL with P endorsement, which she recently re-established. Her career path includes prior work as a utility compliance inspector with Wood Group, roles in property management as an assistant manager, leasing agent, and manager, and ten years driving school buses for multiple districts including Clear Creek ISD, Pearland ISD, and Lamar Consolidated Independent School District. She attended Purdue University North Central to study nursing, completing the majority of the program along with certifications in Bio 1, Bio 2, and Anatomy 2, though she did not finish the degree. Riley attributes her strength and success to her faith in God and her past experiences, which guide her commitment to helping and encouraging others in the community through her work.

01What do you attribute your success to?

My past experiences with abuse and my ex-husband made me strong today. My faith in God got me through it all. I survived by the grace of God and that is what makes me strong. All the glory to God.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

I research everything myself when starting something new and go with my instinct, which has never failed me. My beliefs in God guide me and I pray on any concerns. Spiritual guidance is where I turn.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

CapMetro is a great opportunity no matter where you are coming from, even if homeless or in a shelter. It allows you to make good money, start a new life and career you can retire from. Stay positive, keep a smile on your face, stay focused and aligned, and move forward doing the right thing and helping as much as you can. Life is what you make it.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Helping people is what makes my day. I love to help and encourage others in the community. Staying positive, maintaining mental and physical health through healthy eating, working out, and drinking water. My faith guides everything.
