Her Interview
Ten minutes with Tamra
01What do you attribute your success to?
My success comes from my peers in the industry and hands-on experience. What we do cannot be learned in a classroom. It requires long hours and managing time well, as it is not an 8-5 job. Books and feedback are huge, and quick follow-ups are essential. Treating everyone from the CEO to the janitor the same is key, and as an individual or company, you are only as good as your last referral. If something goes wrong, follow up and make it right.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice is to listen carefully. Speak after knowing the facts. Know who you are speaking with and adjust your communication style accordingly, such as presenting differently to councils versus adjusters. Keep listening, stay calm, reread emails, and do not act irrationally. It is about the product and genuinely caring for the client, not appearances.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Focus on listening and communication with clients, and being a team player. This industry is not an individual effort; you have a team behind you. Listen, communicate, exchange ideas, and motivate each other.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Quick follow-ups are critical because no one wants to wait 24 hours for an answer. Treat all clients equally, from the top to the bottom. Handle referrals carefully, as you are only as good as your last one; if it goes wrong, make it right to retain the client.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
God, family, loyalty, honesty, and communication are most important to me.
