Her Story
About Tangela
I've been in finance for about 20 years now. I started with billing at Xerox, moved into collections where I did deep dive analysis on why customers weren't paying, and now I'm the accounts receivable manager handling the full order-to-cash cycle including cash applications. I got my bachelor's in accounting and master's in finance management. My passion is like being the FBI of finance, doing investigations and root cause analysis on payments. I mentor young women navigating corporate America and was inspired by a mentor from 6th grade through the Cabrini Connections program.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Tangela
01What do you attribute your success to?
Having the mindset of being open to change and having thick skin. When I started at my current company during COVID, I self-taught myself SAP since I understood the order-to-cash process as a transferable skill. I challenged existing processes and took time to research issues instead of passing them on, becoming the go-to person for troubleshooting.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Be the change agent. Learn the areas that your area is impacting so you can partner effectively, and be a team player to your internal customers. Go in with the mindset of being the change you're looking for while supporting the team.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge is receiving payments without proper support or details on what the payment is for, especially with multiple entities and divisions having different banking information. On the opportunity side, AI is taking over but you still need to be a thinker who knows the right questions to ask to get useful responses.
