About Tangela
Tangela Snead is a salon owner in the hair business who has operated her own salon since 1994 in Georgia. She has always had a passion for hair, starting from childhood when she was the person in the neighborhood others came to for styling. As a business owner, Tangela has focused on creating a safe space for clients and especially children, offering services without charge when needed and hosting events like sleepovers and pamper parties. She has served as a mentor to young people, providing guidance on career choices in the hair industry and beyond, often acting as a mother figure and advisor. Tangela attributes her success primarily to God, along with her dedication to staying committed, working six days a week with patience, and never starting something she does not finish. She values sowing seeds into others to help them succeed and being a go-to person who connects people with resources. Her advice to those entering the industry includes being authentic, avoiding following the crowd, pursuing barbering school to become a double threat, treating clients with respect, and recognizing that every client serves as a billboard for the business.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Tangela
01What do you attribute your success to?
Number one, God. Number two, I've always been the kind that I don't start something that I don't finish. I understand that you got to stay in it in order to win it. I gave them 6 days a week, not 2, not 3, even if I didn't have a client. I will be there, available. You have to have patience.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Always be your authentic self. Don't follow what everybody else is doing. Do what you know that's good, that makes you feel good when you finish. Don't be a crowd follower. If it's not your gift, you're not gonna be successful at it. Go to barbering school to be a double threat. Treat people how you want to be treated. Every client is your biggest billboard.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Seeding and giving to other people, sowing seeds into them when I feel that they need it. I like to see people succeed. I want everybody to win. Being that person who could help people, the go-to person.
