Her Story

About Tango

Tango Jackson-Matthews, BS, is a Service Center Manager at Suncoast Credit Union with more than 20 years of experience in the banking industry. Her career began as a part-time teller in Rochester, New York, before she transitioned to a commercial bank and ultimately discovered her passion for helping members achieve their financial goals through credit union services. Over the course of her career, she progressed through positions including Customer Service Teller, Member Advocate I and II, Senior Member Advocate, Assistant Service Center Manager, and Service Center Manager. In her current leadership role, she oversees daily operations, supports compliance and service excellence, develops high-performing teams, and focuses on delivering member-centered financial solutions.

Jackson-Matthews is also an advocate for lifelong learning and professional development. She earned an Associate of Arts degree with a concentration in Business Fundamentals from the University of Phoenix, graduating Cum Laude with a 3.77 GPA, and subsequently completed her Bachelor of Science in Business with a 3.81 GPA. She has also completed professional development in Data-Driven Decision Making and is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. Her leadership philosophy is grounded in hard work, authenticity, accountability, and being present for the people she leads. She considers her team one of her most significant professional achievements, emphasizing a member-focused approach rather than simply pursuing sales-driven goals.

Beyond her professional responsibilities, Jackson-Matthews is deeply committed to community engagement and philanthropy. She is affiliated with the East Orlando Chamber of Commerce, UNCF, and Upper Orlando and has participated in initiatives including educational fundraising, food box distributions, health and wellness events, and small-business community programs. Her leadership is guided by compassion, integrity, accountability, and perseverance, and she encourages the next generation—particularly young women in banking—to trust the process, use their voices, remain curious, and build authentic professional relationships. As a single mother of three who pursued higher education later in life, she views her educational and professional accomplishments as part of a larger legacy for her daughters and hopes to demonstrate what is possible through perseverance, hard work, and continued growth.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Tango

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to hard work, being present for my staff, and remaining authentically myself. I believe in showing up consistently, leading by example, and building genuine relationships rather than trying to be someone I am not.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have received is, “Don’t shrink yourself.” I believe in showing up confidently in every room, using my voice, and recognizing that I have earned my place at the table. Being authentic and embracing my strengths have been important parts of my professional growth.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering banking is to trust the process, use your voice, and stay curious. This industry will challenge and develop you in different areas of your life, so do not feel pressured to rush the process. Ask questions, build genuine relationships, and allow every experience to shape you. Most importantly, remain open to learning and growth throughout your career.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in banking today is keeping pace with the shift toward digital experiences, as more people expect financial services to be accessible digitally. At the same time, I see this as a significant opportunity because technology is constantly evolving. The continued growth of technology gives the banking industry opportunities to innovate, remain relevant, and find new ways to serve members effectively.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me are compassion, integrity, accountability, and perseverance. I believe in leading by example, supporting my family, friends, and team, and treating everyone with respect. These values guide how I approach both my professional responsibilities and my personal relationships.
