Her Interview

Ten minutes with Tanisha

01What do you attribute your success to?

I chose to put God in the center of everything that I'm involved in every day. Look to God for guidance. I make the choice to look to God for direction, inspiration and strength. I owe everything to God.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Remember to be true to yourself. The best advice I've ever received is to know yourself and be true to yourself. It is more important to take joy in what do. than to follow money alone. There are so many career options in nursing. Follow your heart and do not be afraid to try new things.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Always remember nursing is a calling. It is easy to get lost in the business and lose sight of the care. Burn out in nursing is at all-time high.

Take care of yourself, step away if you are losing sight of the need for care.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge in nursing is to continue putting the patient first. Nursing has become a business. It is a constant battle between doing what is best for a patient and what's profitable for a facility. Opportunities include more development and movement towards holistic principles and functional medicine. Getting involved in groups like the American Holistic Nurses Association and Functional Medicine groups which focus on personalized care, empowering nurses, and focusing on caring for the whole person assist in remaining focused on true patient care.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

At my core, is service to God. It's important to choose God, choose hope, choose joy in your ministry through nursing. I follow God and His precepts, what He's laid out for me, sets everything else in alignment with my life. Make your choice. Daily I decide to make it a good day. A circumstance is what we find ourselves in. Our patients may find themselves dealing with an illness, or bad diagnosis, but that is not their entire life. We help our patients to focus on the positive, help them to get better; body, soul, spirit and mind. Celebrate life in whatever stage you find yourself living. You can and will make a difference.
