Her Story

About Tanvi

I am a mid-level product designer currently working at Red Oak Technologies for the past 4 years. Before that, I spent 3 years at a healthcare AI startup in the Bay Area. I completed my bachelor's in engineering, followed by a master's in human-computer interaction from San Jose State University, graduating in May 2023. I am now pursuing my doctorate in computer science and human-computer interaction. My main expertise lies in product design, understanding products better, and leading product strategies. I take pride in shipping products that users actually engage with and am driven by a passion for continuous learning and never giving up.

Ten minutes with Tanvi

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to never giving up. There was a time I thought of giving up and questioned decisions, but I knew if I gave up there would be nothing to go for. This habit of not giving up until the end has kept me going.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I received from my mentor is to never stop learning. Today's solution for any problem could be a problem for tomorrow. In times like today, things are constantly evolving, so you have to stay curious, continuously improve yourself, and keep upgrading your skill sets. This mindset has helped me think beyond just pushing pixels or designing screens to consider the impact of my designs on businesses, users, and audiences.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

It is going to be hard and rough given the times we are in right now. But the only thing they have to do is continuously work towards it, even if they don't see their hard work being rewarded at that moment. Hard work is going to pay off, and it is going to pay off in the most unknowing or unexpected way.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Dream big is one of the most important values for me. I do not limit myself into a box. Ownership is important, taking my work's success and failure both. Constantly being in a challenging environment and improving yourself. Curiosity is key.
