Tanya DeShields-Marant is a seasoned Hospitality Finance Leader with over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry, specializing in accounting and financial management. She has developed a strong expertise in forecasting, budgeting, capital planning, depreciation, margin analysis, account reconciliations, cash flow analysis, and financial reporting. Throughout her career, Tanya has worked with numerous property management and financial systems, including Opera, OnQ, Lightspeed, Micros, Hyperion, Oracle, Yardi, and OneStream, enabling her to deliver accurate, efficient, and insightful financial oversight for hotels across multiple brands.

Currently serving as Regional Finance Executive for Crescent Hotels & Resorts, Tanya leads financial operations across the U.S. and Canada, ensuring asset security, operational efficiency, and accurate reporting. Her prior roles include Director of Finance and Area Director of Finance positions with Sonesta Hotels, PM Hotel Group, Hyatt Hotels Corporation, and HHM Hotels, where she successfully managed multi-property finance teams, general ledger oversight, P&L analysis, and capital acquisitions. Tanya is recognized for her ability to streamline processes, mentor teams, and provide strategic financial guidance that drives business growth and operational excellence.

Beyond her professional achievements, Tanya is a devoted wife and mother of two sons. She embraces a healthy lifestyle, prioritizing family time, exercise, and nutrition, while also enjoying travel and weightlifting. What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my genuine passion for what I do. I particularly enjoy teaching managerial finance and take great satisfaction in helping others understand and apply financial concepts effectively.

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to question everything and practice “trust but verify.” It’s a reminder to stay curious, think critically, and ensure that decisions are informed and accurate, even when working with trusted colleagues or established processes.

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would advise young women entering my industry to work hard and stay committed, because dedication truly pays off. Believe in yourself and your abilities, seek out mentors who can guide and support you, stay open-minded to new ideas and opportunities, and cultivate a great personality—professional skills combined with a positive, approachable attitude can make all the difference in your success.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is balancing the demands and expectations of the ownership group while simultaneously delivering positive, measurable results. This presents an opportunity to strengthen leadership, strategic decision-making, and communication skills, ensuring that both organizational goals and stakeholder expectations are successfully aligned.

The values most important to me in both my work and personal life are trust, loyalty, and a strong work ethic. I believe in showing up for people, being empathetic and caring, and maintaining an open-door approach—creating an environment where others feel supported, heard, and valued.
