About Tara
Tara Abron is an accomplished retail management professional with approximately five years of management experience and a strong background in team leadership, store operations, and customer service. She currently serves as a Retail Sales Manager at Value Village, where she has taken on expanded store leadership responsibilities, including overseeing three departments, hiring and scheduling employees, addressing complex customer concerns, and coaching team members. Her hands-on leadership approach emphasizes understanding the entire business operation and helping employees recognize how their work contributes to overall store performance.
Throughout her career at Value Village, Tara has demonstrated a willingness to take initiative and grow into positions of increasing responsibility. She progressed from front-end supervision to management, including approximately 11 months as a Production Manager, before returning to the Retail Sales Manager role. One of her proudest accomplishments has been helping retrain fellow managers and stepping into expanded responsibilities during a management vacancy. Her ability to strengthen teams, solve operational challenges, and maintain daily operations has contributed to her professional advancement and established her as a dependable leader.
Before entering the retail industry, Tara worked as a medical assistant, giving her a diverse professional background grounded in service, responsibility, and helping others. Her areas of expertise include retail management, team leadership, employee development, store operations, workforce management, and customer experience. As she prepares to relocate from Washington to Montana, Tara is exploring new opportunities where she can apply her leadership experience, continue developing teams, and make a meaningful contribution to both the organization and the community it serves.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Tara
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to resilience, initiative, determination, and hard work. I believe in stepping forward when something needs to be done, embracing opportunities to learn, and taking on additional responsibilities. The challenges I have overcome have strengthened my drive to build a stable, positive future for myself and my children.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve received came from my former store manager and mentor, Lisa Andersen. Her guidance and perspective taught me the value of learning from experienced leaders while also having the confidence to develop my own leadership style, make thoughtful career decisions, and find my professional voice.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the industry is to find your voice early and never be afraid to speak up for yourself. Share your ideas and opinions professionally, set healthy boundaries, and don’t allow others to undermine you. Confidence and respectful communication will help you earn credibility and respect in your field.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I believe one of the biggest opportunities in my field is developing a strong understanding of the business model and how its different components work together. The better I understand the business as a whole, the more effectively I can support my colleagues, help them see the bigger picture, and contribute to better results.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are resilience, responsibility, integrity, family, personal growth, and making a positive difference in others’ lives. My two children are a major source of motivation, and I strive to create stability for my family while showing them that difficult circumstances do not define their future. Professionally, I believe in taking responsibility, communicating clearly, following through on commitments, and helping others grow. Outside of work, I enjoy creating perfumes, lotions, and soaps, which I often share with family and friends, as well as spending quality time with my children.
