Her Story

About Tara

Tara Carrico serves as an MRI Educator at a college, where she helps others enter the healthcare field by sharing knowledge gained over 12 years in healthcare, including a decade at a hospital in St. Louis. She earned her bachelor's degree in radiologic technology from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in 2014 and her master's degree in health administration from Maryvale University in St. Louis in 2023, completing the latter just eight weeks after having twins. A member of both ARRT and ASRT, Carrico previously worked in management within the healthcare system for about two years before transitioning to her current role in education. She attributes her success to the support of her family and husband, as well as her drive to demonstrate to her children the value of hard work and pursuing one's passions. Outside of work, Carrico volunteers with her children's sports and school activities and participates in community events at the college.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Tara

01What do you attribute your success to?

The support of my family and my husband, and the drive to show my kids that if you work hard, you can do what you want to do, and you can do what you love.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

If there's something you want to do, try to do it. Don't think that you aren't qualified enough, or maybe you don't have the right experience. If you want to do something, go for it. You're passionate about it, don't be surprised where you might end up.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

In healthcare, take care of yourself. Don't forget that you have to show up to work taken care of as you have to take care of yourself before you can take care of others. So, try to avoid burnout, have a hobby outside of work, whatever that looks like.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Finding time to do everything I want to do without feeling like I'm spreading myself too thin.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty, persistence, and hard work. In my new career in education, being honest with colleagues or students if there's something I don't know, not being afraid to ask, and finding the correct answer.
