About Tara

Tara Carroll is a results-driven Public Sector Inside Sales Representative at Procore Technologies, where she supports government agencies, K-12 school districts, and higher education institutions in adopting construction and technology solutions that improve operational efficiency and transparency. Beginning her career as a teacher, Tara transitioned into technology sales in 2020, pursuing new opportunities for growth and financial advancement while stepping into the tech industry just weeks before the global shift to remote work. She currently continues to build her career at Procore in her ISR role beginning in 2026, where she focuses on client relationships, revenue growth, and helping organizations modernize their project and financial management processes. Tara holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from Fairleigh Dickinson University (2017), which laid the foundation for her ability to communicate complex concepts in accessible and impactful ways.

Throughout her professional journey, Tara has demonstrated strong performance, earning awards such as Rookie of the Year and Breakout Star while advancing into leadership roles during her six-year tenure at SHI International Corp., where she ultimately served as a manager supporting public sector development teams. She is also passionate about empowering others through her business, Tara Was a Teacher, where she coaches educators who are looking to transition out of the classroom and explore new career opportunities in corporate or technology roles. Her career success is rooted in strong mentorship, supportive leadership environments, and participation in women empowerment initiatives that helped build her confidence in presentations, client engagement, and professional development.

Outside of her professional work, Tara enjoys reading, walking, spending time at the beach, traveling, Pilates, and walking her dog. She is also committed to giving back to her community through volunteer work with the Humane Society, reflecting her long-standing passion for animal welfare and service. Tara’s unique background in education, sales leadership, and coaching allows her to combine relationship building, strategic thinking, and mentorship as she continues to grow her career in technology and public sector innovation.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Tara

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my strong support system and my personal drive for continuous growth. I have been fortunate to have a supportive family and encouraging friends who have given me the confidence to take risks, pursue new opportunities, and navigate major career transitions. In addition to this foundation of support, I am naturally motivated to keep learning, improving my skills, and pushing myself to perform at a higher level. This mindset has allowed me to adapt to new industries, overcome challenges, and consistently achieve strong professional results.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've received is the only way not to be afraid of something is to try it. Almost everyone is nervous about doing something for the first time. The way people get comfortable and confident is doing it over and over again to master it.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would advise young women entering my industry to be willing to feel scared and move forward anyway, because growth often happens outside of our comfort zones. The only way to overcome fear is by facing new challenges, learning from them, and building confidence through experience. Believe in your abilities, seek out mentors and supportive communities, and never be afraid to advocate for your ideas and opportunities for advancement.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I think mastering AI is so important in tech right now and will lead to opportunities down the road.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Work hard, play harder. I'm always working towards my next goal professionally but also enjoying my personal life while doing it.
