Her Story

About Tara

Tara Kelly serves as the Hospitality Manager, Concierge, and Event Planner at Flanagan Wines, a boutique luxury winery located in the hills above Healdsburg, California. She began her career in the wine industry in 2015 following 10 years as a preschool and kindergarten teacher, during which she developed strong skills in multitasking, communication, and creating nurturing environments. Tara previously worked for a luxury wine label in Green Valley under mentor Barb Gustafson, where she gained hands-on experience in guest experience and tasting room operations, and then spent over five years at Cartograph Wines under mentor Serena Lourie, focusing on sales and guest relations. In her current role for the past five years, she manages private events for 30 to 50 guests, conducts vineyard tours, runs the front of house, coordinates with local concierges, private drivers, and restaurants, and oversees property details. She earned her WSET Level 3 certification through the Napa Valley Wine Academy in 2021, becoming a certified sommelier. Tara is a founding member of the Wine Country Concierge Association, serves as an ambassador for a Napa based by-appointment networking group, and acts as an Accredited Hospitality Professional through Sonoma County Tourism. She has volunteered extensively with the Redwood Empire Food Bank and supports the 4 C’s Sonoma chapter through event proceeds and engagement.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The world of wine used to be a man's world, but time has shown that women are perfectly equipped at it because we multitask easily, being skilled at running a household while keeping a garden, animals and children alive, fostering beauty and harmony, all while taking care of ourselves. We are adept at all facets of winemaking, with an incredibly keen palate as most super-tasters in the world are women. We are well equipped to balance the science aspect with the creative thrust which go hand in hand with the art of wine. You have to be able to wear many hats, and be proficient in numerous fields, all part of this industry including sales, communication, email, writing, storytelling, engaging, and professionalism.
