Her Interview

Ten minutes with Tara

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the diverse professional experiences I have gained throughout my career, particularly my decade-long background in account management within the access control and automation industry. My brief experience in waste management also broadened my perspective and strengthened my adaptability, while returning to my current role at High Security allowed me to build on the knowledge, relationships, and skills I had developed over the years. Each experience has contributed to my professional growth, resilience, and ability to succeed in a dynamic industry.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I have ever received is to focus on the things I can control. During COVID-19, when circumstances were especially chaotic and challenging, this mindset helped me remain calm, make thoughtful decisions, and guide customers through uncertainty. I learned that focusing on what we can influence, rather than reacting emotionally to what is outside our control, allows us to navigate challenges more effectively and maintain a positive, solution-oriented approach.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women entering my industry to seek out strong mentors who can provide guidance, share their experiences, and help them navigate professional challenges with confidence. I also believe it is important to advocate for yourself and recognize your value, particularly when it comes to fair compensation. Knowing your worth, communicating your accomplishments, and having the confidence to pursue equitable pay can make a meaningful difference in building a successful and rewarding career.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in my field is working in a traditionally male-dominated industry, where women may not always feel equally recognized or valued alongside their male counterparts. At the same time, this presents a significant opportunity to advocate for greater inclusion, demonstrate the value women bring to the industry, and help create a more equitable environment for future generations. I believe continued mentorship, confidence, and a willingness to speak up can help drive meaningful change and open more opportunities for women to succeed.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in both my professional and personal life are integrity, resilience, adaptability, and the willingness to embrace change. As a change leader working in a traditionally male-dominated field, I believe it is important to lead with confidence, remain open to new perspectives, and advocate for positive progress. I strive to treat others with respect, stay true to my principles, and use my experiences to help create a more inclusive and supportive environment for those around me.
