Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I would attribute my success, number one, to my mom. She really, my whole entire life, showed me what hard work is and where it gets you, and where hard work does no harm. Starting there, I would also say I've had a couple of teachers that were really good at giving guidance and helping me look ahead, and also just giving that safe space to truthfully learn. These champions in my life have always supported me and shown me that I can achieve anything I set out to do.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've received recently is to go into places that interest you and start talking to the people that work there to figure out what their days look like, what they like about their job, and what path they went down that led them there. It's about really getting into the reality of what a career is actually like. My career advisor at SNHU was just talking to me about this a few weeks ago. If anyone is willing to let you just tag along with them for the day, definitely do it, because it literally lets you get a day in that life.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say to be open to opportunities, because even things that you might think were not anything you'd want to do, or never be a part of, might actually have something in them. Even if just one small part of it interests you, it could open you up to something else you'd never even considered. So be open to opportunities.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I feel like there probably are some challenges with the state of the world and everything right now. It can cause consumers to struggle, and so it can feel a little bit slow, or like we're just really pulling teeth in this realm of the world right now. But I also think it presents a lot of opportunities to meet a lot of very interesting people and learn about a lot of things outside of what I'm here to do, sell clothes and shoes and all that. I meet so many people from all around the world that just have a lot of good perspectives and advice on different parts of life, and I think that's a great opportunity, being in this environment.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

My most important values are growth - I really appreciate learning and not being stagnant. I also appreciate opportunities to mess up and learn and correct my mistakes, and I really like environments where I have that ability. Beyond that, I value spending quality time with my family and friends, just living easy and enjoying the small moments. I also love being outdoors here in Colorado Springs, doing things like camping and hiking. At the end of busy retail days, sometimes I just need to go home and sit in a very quiet room to recharge.
