Her Interview
Ten minutes with Tara
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a combination of hands-on experience, continuous learning, and strong cross-functional collaboration. Over the past five years at Mercedes-Benz Vans, I have developed a practical understanding of logistics, material flow, supply chain operations, and inventory control. Earning my Lean Six Sigma Green Belt strengthened my ability to identify inefficiencies, solve problems systematically, and support continuous improvement. I also believe my success comes from being proactive, communicating clearly, and staying focused on operational results—especially when coordinating across teams to resolve issues and keep production moving.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have received was to find my voice and confidently advocate for my ideas. As a woman working in the traditionally male-dominated manufacturing industry, I learned that speaking with conviction and standing up for what I believe in are essential to being heard and making a meaningful impact. Once I embraced that advice, I became more confident, increased my visibility, and began to advance in my career.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the industry is to be confident, speak with conviction, and trust the value of their perspectives. At the same time, listen carefully to colleagues, remain aware of the dynamics around you, and be open to learning from every experience. Seek out a trusted mentor who can provide guidance, share knowledge, and support your professional development. Most importantly, embrace feedback and continuous learning, as both are essential to building confidence and advancing your career.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The most significant challenges in my field are ongoing cost-reduction pressures and frequent shifts in strategic priorities. At the same time, these challenges create opportunities to improve processes, strengthen cross-functional collaboration, and implement more efficient, sustainable solutions that support long-term operational success.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are balance, continuous growth, financial stability, and maintaining strong relationships with family and friends. In my professional life, I am committed to learning, improving, and contributing at a high level. Personally, achieving financial stability allows me to maintain a healthy work-life balance and stay connected with loved ones in Ohio despite the distance from South Carolina. These values motivate me to pursue success with purpose while making time for the people who matter most.
