Tarina credits the values instilled by her Jamaican father, who brought her to the United States at age nine, and her stepmother for helping shape the determination and work ethic that continue to guide her professional and entrepreneurial journey.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Tarina
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my father and stepmother and the way they raised me. My father brought me from Jamaica to the United States when I was nine, despite having very little, and I watched him work two jobs to provide for our family. Their sacrifice, work ethic, and dedication as parents shaped my values and made me the woman I am today.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is simple: never give up. No matter how difficult the journey becomes, keep pushing forward, stay committed to your goals, and believe in yourself.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Expect to hear a lot of “no’s” throughout your career, but don’t let them define you or make you feel like you’ve failed. A closed door or setback may simply mean that opportunity wasn’t the right fit at that time. Keep moving forward, trust the process, and recognize that another door may be opening elsewhere.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest opportunities for me right now is expanding into schools and colleges to serve children who need basic resources such as food and water to support them throughout the school day. I’m grateful for the opportunity to use the resources I have to meet these needs and make a meaningful difference in the community.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are treating everyone with respect and giving my best in everything I do. I believe in giving my all at work without selling myself short. Personally, I value continuous growth—excelling in my studies, stepping outside my comfort zone, and always being open to learning and exploring new opportunities.
