Her Story

About Tasha

With 20 years in healthcare, I currently serve as a Nurse Educator, a role I've held for nine and a half years. I lead the onboarding team for Aetna Medicaid new hires, where we focus on change management and getting people workforce ready. Throughout my career, I've worked in various capacities including clinical care management, as a branch manager for a home health company, and in floor nursing and neonatal intensive care. I wasn't always sure how I would fit teaching into my career, but I discovered that nursing allowed me to combine teaching, travel, and a stable career into one place. My work involves taking a look at our initiatives for the year and helping people get ready for change. What drives me is seeing tangible data that someone's health has been improved, either directly or indirectly through what I do. Starting out, my proudest moments were seeing neonatal babies get to go home with their families, and that feeling of making a real difference continues to give me a big boost and helps me keep going every day.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would say definitely be open to new opportunities. Don't wait until you feel ready, because a lot of times you have what it takes. It may not look like it in how you think it should be written, but if you take that first step, your confidence can grow once you take that first step.

02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

When you get into nursing, it involves a lot more than patient care. Helping to bridge the gap between how we are also analytical, have to be analytical, in addition to transforming those complex concepts into ready-to-digest information for whoever - physicians, members, patients - that's one of the bigger challenges that we face. So, just being able to have a broader view of our career, of our profession, is a challenge that we face each day.
