About Tatiana
Tatiana McGaughy is a filmmaker, producer, director, writer, actor, and founder of T.Shari Productions. Her creative journey spans more than two decades of working both in front of and behind the camera. She began pursuing acting as a childhood dream before expanding into writing, producing, and directing, ultimately creating opportunities not only for herself, but also for other emerging creatives.
Through T.Shari Productions, Tatiana guides projects from initial concept and development through production and completion. Her experience across multiple areas of filmmaking gives her a well-rounded perspective on storytelling, creative leadership, collaboration, and the realities of independent production.
Tatiana studied at the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in Washington, D.C., where her performance training helped shape her actor-centered approach to directing. Her work is grounded in creating collaborative environments where performers feel supported and every department understands the larger vision.
Most recently, Tatiana directed and produced the independent comedy short LIT, which celebrated its private screening in September 2026. Her accomplishments also include receiving a Best Actress award earlier in her career. Beyond filmmaking, Tatiana is a homeschooling mother of three and a member of EmpowHer, a community supporting career-minded women. She also sits on the board of advisors for Selenius Holdings, a private equity fund founded by her husband, Donte McGaughy, with a focus on logistics through mergers and acquisitions.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute a lot of my success to growing up hearing that I could do anything I wanted if I put my mind to it. My parents instilled that belief in me, and the love and support of my family have helped me hold on to it throughout my journey. I’m especially grateful for my husband because he continues to believe in me and encourage me, even during the moments when I doubt myself. He is truly my biggest cheerleader, and his support keeps me going.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I try to live my life by comes from something my father-in-law often says: “The things that happen to you in life are either lessons or blessings.” To me, that means nothing is ever truly a failure. If something doesn’t work out the way you hoped, you still walk away having learned something, and that lesson is a win in itself. If it does work out, then that’s your blessing.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage young women entering this industry to go for it, and go hard. It isn’t always easy to be a woman, a mother, or a wife while also pursuing your own goals and dreams. Give yourself permission to find a balance that works for you, knowing that it may look different in every season of your life. Don’t allow anyone’s “no” to make you minimize yourself. You have a voice, and it deserves to be heard. Keep going, even if you can only take one small step at a time. Every step still moves you forward, so don’t give up.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges we face as independent filmmakers is funding. Making a film is expensive, and many of us are trying to bring ambitious stories to life with micro-budgets while also building the track record needed to attract investors. Tools like AI can help close some of those financial and creative gaps when used responsibly, not to replace cast or crew, but to support the vision in areas where the budget may be limited. I also believe there needs to be more of a culture of giving back in this industry. When people who have gained access and resources invest in emerging filmmakers, share their knowledge, and create opportunities for others, it strengthens the entire filmmaking community.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
My family is at the center of everything I do. No matter how busy I become, I make a conscious effort to be present and spend meaningful time with my husband and children. I also value meditation and being intentional about what I feed my mind because that helps me stay grounded, motivated, and moving forward. Negative thoughts can keep you limited if you allow them to, so I try not to stay stuck in them. Even when things are difficult, I believe there is always something to learn, something to be grateful for, or a silver lining waiting to be found.
Another value that is deeply important to me is bringing people along with me as I grow. I would not have made it this far in my career without the love and support of the people around me. Whenever I have an opportunity to elevate someone, support their journey, or give them a platform to showcase their talents, I make a point to do that. It is my way of paying forward the support that others have shown me and making sure I’m not only creating opportunities for myself, but opening doors for others as well.
