Her Story
About Tatiyanna
I've always been drawn to relationship building and connecting with people. In my career, I've landed global partnerships and brand expansion within the beauty industry. I worked on a show called Beauty World that happens globally in Dubai, Japan, and Saudi Arabia. I've worked with live events, international trade, and brand strategy, and I was even recognized by the U.S. Consulate of Dubai for supporting U.S. manufacturing and exports by organizing the U.S. Pavilion at the Beauty World show. What really connects me is understanding clients' pain points and understanding what they need, and then going to find that solution. Right now, I'm in a freelance position where my focus is on brand expansion, global education, and helping brands, especially black beauty brands, understand their position and what their future looks like at scale. I'm integrated with the Atlanta beauty industry and recently attended the Atlanta Black Chambers event for the beauty initiative and will be at the Spelman College event for the steminist this weekend. I believe it's so important to stay up-to-date with the ever-changing beauty industry, know your stats, know what's emerging, and know what people are discussing, because you blink and it's moving.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Tatiyanna
01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say don't let fear get in your way. It's easy to think, I'm young, I'm a woman, how can I fit in? How can I contribute? It's so easy to let that be at the forefront of your mind as you're navigating. Don't lead with fear. Lead with your curiosity. Lead with your knowledge. It is okay to know things at a young age. I truly believe that more mature professionals, adult professionals, they want to actually know that Gen Z cares about the stuff that they are interested in, and that it's not just surface level. So lead with your curiosity, don't lead with fear. You know what you know, you've done the work, you've done the education, now let that move you to your next journey.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The beauty industry is always evolving. It's fast moving. There's now Beauty AI, there is beauty tech. The tech equipment is evolving with not only just technology, but even design. I'm seeing creations done by architects that are putting devices into med spas, so it's constantly evolving. It's so important to stay up-to-date with the ever-changing industry of beauty. Know your stats, know what's emerging, know what people are discussing. It's so important because you blink and it's moving. So it's so important to just stay involved.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Connection with people is so important to me. Especially with our phones, we forget what it looks like to really connect and listen and engage with people. I think people yearn for that, and I believe that when people put themselves out there, that is a vulnerable thing. You start a business, it's a vulnerable thing. You're going to make mistakes, you're going to make errors, and you're going to make money. And there's so many moments that when you are in this industry, or when you're just being a person, a friend, a stranger to someone, you have to lead with kindness and understanding and listening, because that is the core of connection building. When people realize, oh, I can be heard, and oh, I can have a conversation with someone that actually cares, that is so important in every aspect of life.
