Her Story

About Tatyana

Tatyana Maizel is a licensed counselor specializing in private practice mental health. She began her residency in counseling in 2023 and was officially licensed in January 2025. Tatyana earned her bachelor's degree in psychology after working in food service and decided to pursue counseling to give back after experiencing its benefits herself. Her areas of specialization include grief and trauma, with a particular emphasis on complex trauma and the EMDR approach to support clients in healing and achieving their goals. She provides services to individuals, couples, families, and groups, working with clients across the lifespan starting at age 5. Tatyana has practiced online since 2023 and is developing a brick-and-mortar location in Nevada following her move there. She attributes her success to her commitment to completing tasks thoroughly, the guidance of her mentors at the private practice, and the meaningful connections with her clients. Tatyana is expanding her impact by facilitating a complex trauma group and preparing to mentor an incoming intern in the fall. She advises young women entering the field to trust the process, remain authentic, and move beyond the blank slate therapist model to foster genuine connections.

Ten minutes with Tatyana

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think it's something that I have always has. I don't know, I constantly says, he's like, you're good at everything you do. I just, you know, when I put my mind to something, I want to make sure it's done well and done right. I have had a really incredible set of mentors here at this private practice that have just been so helpful every step of the way. They celebrate the successes. And I think the clients too, like, you know, they're we don't always see the changes every session, but sometimes it's as simple as, like, you know, I just appreciate you being here.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The first thing that comes to mind is the old phrase of trust the process, and I kind of love-hate that, but it is true. But also, just, like Be yourself, and don't be afraid to go against the status quo, in a sense. You know, we're taught certain things in school that We tend to have to unlearn a little bit as we get into the profession. And I say that in the sense of, like Psychology and, you know, therapy, mental health has certainly received, like, a whitewashed frame. Not all of those practices are necessary or helpful. You know, so, like, the blank slate therapist, like, let go of that. But that's what people want to see. They want to connect, they want to relate, they want to know that a person is in front of them. And just be a person.
