Her Interview

Ten minutes with Tawanda

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say God. This has not been an easy journey. I would say, with spiritual guidance, the love and support of my husband and family members is what got me here.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

One of my academic advisors when I was a sophomore in school... never let anyone make you feel lesser than who I am, to know that I deserve whatever it is that I have... My most recent mentor told me to basically why should I have to sit at someone else's table when I can have my own table also.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Anything is possible. If you just believe in yourself, Trust the process. You can do it. ... Just trust the process. Regardless of what challenge comes your way, you can do this. Challenges come, but... Anything is possible if it's something that you truly want. And know that you deserve it. You deserve the best. And to never let anyone take that away from you.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Getting my students... some of my students to understand how important education is. And how far it can take them once they get it. So overcome their challenges, regardless what comes their way, they have to keep pushing and moving themselves forward.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Respect. Staying humble. Honoring. Respect is like a big thing for me. ... respect, honor, being... staying humble.
