Her Interview
Ten minutes with Tempest
01What do you attribute your success to?
Being surrounded by other women with the similar mindset to me. Even when I was coming up as a frontline care manager, just trying to learn my way in the field, I got connected to my team lead at the time, and on days when I was having my hardest days, when I was in tears and I was doubting myself, and even more recently here, where I'm just trying to make sure that I'm even I'm still in the place I should be. Being surrounded by women who are in my corner has definitely helped my longevity in my career.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Be open. Don't limit yourself. There have been times where I've had conversations with folks about where I'm going next in my career, or what could I do in the next 5 to 10 years, and I've always been told just to be open and have the conversation, because if not, you never know how you're limiting yourself.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say to be confident in yourself and your abilities. And don't let anyone dim your light. There's room for everyone, no matter their background, no matter what they want for their future. You are more than capable of becoming whatever you want to become.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Biggest challenge is the lack of resources. There are a lot of patients that have very complex needs, and unfortunately, there just aren't enough resources provided by the state or even the local county to really give folks what they need to keep their loved ones at home as long as possible.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Honesty, integrity, respect. And having a strong work ethic, for sure, because none of this happened by chance.
