Her Story

About Teri

Teri Brooks has been in healthcare staffing for 20 years, where she handles strategy and operations for a healthcare staffing company while leading people and business strategy from sunup to sundown. She is also the founder of Blitz Board Stats, a flag football stats tracking app that she launched about a year and a half ago. She is scaling the business across high schools, colleges, and teams throughout the United States. Teri Brooks graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison as the first in her family to attend college after attending three different schools and taking time to focus on her path. She continues to learn daily, including how to create and grow an app, and finds ongoing education critical beyond formal college.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Teri

01What do you attribute your success to?

I don't really understand the word no. I think no is a negotiation. Follow your heart, follow your gut. My dad worked really hard and still works hard and finds joy and passion in doing the work.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Don't let anybody dim your light. Be authentically you.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

There is nothing to fear but fear itself. Feel the fear and do it anyway.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Flag football is the fastest growing sport. As a WBE certified company I do not have the funding that some newer companies have. This is a very male-dominated space with powerhouse competitors that have more funding.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Transparency. I'm a very direct communicator. It's about respect. Treat others the way I want to be treated, whether janitor or CEO. Eye contact. People remember how you make them feel. Lead by focusing on feelings. Want people to be part of the solution and enjoy it.
