Her Story

About Terri

Terri Dean-Alexander serves as assistant director of ARMS, Advocates for Removing Migraine Stigma, and director of events and committees with Chronic Migraine Awareness. She has been an advocate for over 10 years and has held her current roles for approximately 2 years. Disabled since 2017 due to migraine, Terri developed a Facebook group as a place for people to share experiences before finding her home with Chronic Migraine Awareness about 9 years ago and becoming more involved 3 years ago under the mentorship of founder Cat Charrett Dykes. She emphasizes supporting patients through support groups, blogs, events, and a social media committee so they feel they have purpose even when unable to work outside the home. Terri values being real and authentic, advising others to join ARMS programs, find board-certified migraine specialists, and embrace who they are without pretense. Her work aims to make the invisible disease visible, remove stigma, and reach more people with hope and resources.

Ten minutes with Terri

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

One, join our support groups. Join our ARMS programs. Find a board-certified migraine specialist within your area.

02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Being real. Don't try to be someone that you're not. Sometimes telling someone the truth about something is the best way to do it, even though it does hurt a little bit. Just be real. Just be who you are. Don't pretend. Because you're not going to get anywhere.
