Ten minutes with Terri
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the unwavering support and encouragement of my husband, whose partnership has been invaluable throughout my professional journey. His support helped me navigate six years of advanced education while building the foundation for my mental health counseling practice. His belief in my vision and commitment to my growth have been instrumental in allowing me to pursue my calling, overcome challenges, and continue making a meaningful impact in the lives of others.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the mental health and ministry fields is to remain committed to professional development, follow all licensing requirements, complete supervision hours diligently, and pursue independent licensure as soon as possible to gain greater autonomy and confidence in their practice. It is also important to recognize that ministry continues to present both challenges and opportunities for women, making it essential to lead with resilience, authenticity, and a willingness to embrace the unique contributions women bring to these fields.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges and opportunities in my field reflect the evolving landscape of healthcare, mental health, and personal support services. In chaplaincy, one of the greatest challenges is the increasing corporatization of hospitals, where decisions are often driven by financial considerations and operational priorities that can impact the availability and visibility of spiritual care. In therapy, the field continues to become more competitive, requiring professionals to differentiate themselves while maintaining quality and compassionate care. At the same time, coaching presents an exciting opportunity by offering greater autonomy, flexibility, and the ability to support clients without the limitations and restrictions often associated with insurance-based care.
