Her Story

About TERRY

Terry Silverstein brings more than 40 years of expertise to international supply chain commerce and regulation. She works at Lamex Food Groups, a global supplier of beef, pork, and chicken proteins to wholesale markets including restaurants and stores. In addition to her primary role, she re-educates and mentors a team of professionals in their 30s. Silverstein previously taught the industry at a trade school after stepping away from active work to give back, drawing from her own start in the field. She grew up in humble beginnings in Long Beach and credits her success to consistency along with a clear goal, having visualized working amid the skyscrapers and port cranes each night as a youth. Her career highlights include negotiating a major logistics solution with Japan Airlines that saved her company a million dollars and successfully challenging U.S. Customs penalties on behalf of a prior employer. Silverstein has also authored children's books, including her second titled Noah's Ark, and maintains a Substack with articles such as Lessons from the Boys offering guidance for women in the male-dominated logistics field.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with TERRY

01What do you attribute your success to?

I'd say consistency. You have to have a consistency and a goal, something that actually drives you. I set out when I was young, grew up humble beginnings in Long Beach, and used to look at the skyscrapers and the port every night visualizing being part of that industry.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

You oughta read my substack, there's an article called Lessons from the boys. International logistics and supply chain is a male-dominated industry. If women can take advice from the Southern women here in the U.S., it's let the man lead, you're the neck. It turns the head. Just be even. Draw your attention this way. Our job is to frame redirect, and harness the power of the feminine part that's brought to business.
