Her Story
About Thalia
Thalia Salas is a Customer Success Manager at Mechasys, a startup based in Canada that specializes in projector-based robotic layout tools for the construction industry. In her role, she helps job sites adopt digital construction workflows, guiding clients through the training and implementation needed to integrate robotic laser projection systems into their daily operations. Her work centers on bridging the gap between traditional construction methods and the emerging technologies reshaping the field, with a particular focus on customer success and construction robotics.
Salas built her career from the ground up, entering the construction industry in 2020 after earning her Bachelor of Business Administration in Sales and Marketing from the University of Toledo. She began at a Hilti retail location in Detroit before transitioning into field sales, where she managed concrete accounts throughout the Chicago area. Her career progressed into a digital construction consulting role at Hilti, where she worked hands-on with robotic total stations, concrete scanners, and semi-automated drilling technology. She later expanded her expertise through a quality control and project management position at Argo Construction before stepping into her current role at Mechasys, where she now helps customers modernize their layout processes.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, which include being recognized by Hilti for generating one million dollars in sales within a single year, Salas is guided by a strong personal foundation of family, integrity, and commitment. Raised on a farm in Ohio, she has since built a life for herself in downtown Chicago while staying connected to her roots through continued involvement with organizations like 4-H. She remains passionate about encouraging young women in her field to speak up with confidence, viewing her own journey as proof that persistence and self-assurance can open doors in even the most traditional industries.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Thalia
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to hard work and to building the life I always envisioned for myself. I grew up on a farm in Ohio, and today I live in downtown Chicago, which reflects the effort I've put into creating that path.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I've received is to be confident in myself, especially when it comes to my area of expertise. Trusting my own knowledge and speaking with confidence has made a real difference in my career.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell young women entering this industry to say it even if their voice shakes. Speak up for those who don't have a voice, and keep going no matter what.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest opportunities I see is helping people who still rely on traditional, old-school layout methods transition to using new tools and robotics. These technologies can speed up their workflow and make their jobs easier, even if they don't yet realize the difference it can make.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Family is extremely important to me, no matter what. Beyond that, I place a high value on integrity and commitment — having strong values and sticking to them, even when things get difficult.
