Theresa Gardner, M.A., is a dedicated scholar and practitioner in theology and religious studies, currently serving as the Director of Christian Service at Loyola School in New York City. With a deep commitment to faith-based service and social justice, she guides students and the community in programs that foster spiritual growth, community engagement, and ethical leadership. Her work emphasizes the practical application of theological study to create meaningful, real-world impact.

Theresa earned her Master’s degree in Theology and Religious Studies from Villanova University, where she focused on feminist and liberation theology, building on her undergraduate studies in Music and Theology at The Catholic University of America. During her academic career, she gained extensive experience in research, teaching, and community service, including roles as a graduate assistant to renowned Church historian Dr. Massimo Faggioli and as a development intern for Religions for Peace International. These experiences strengthened her expertise in research, public speaking, and advocacy for global humanitarian efforts.

Beyond academia, Theresa has served as an ambassador for South Sudan’s Peace Village Kuron through the Opus Prize, connecting with leaders and communities to support peacebuilding initiatives. She has also worked internationally as a summer camp counselor at TASIS-Switzerland, demonstrating her commitment to youth education and cultural exchange. Combining her passion for theology, music, and service, Theresa Gardner continues to inspire and mentor the next generation of faith-driven leaders.

The best career advice I’ve ever received is to pursue work that genuinely excites me—something that makes me eager to get up each day and engage fully.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge in my field right now is finding effective ways to communicate complex global issues to students in a way that is engaging, accessible, and meaningful. At the same time, there’s a tremendous opportunity to use innovative teaching methods, technology, and real-world examples to help students understand and connect with these critical topics.

The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are compassion, authenticity, and kindness. I strive to approach every interaction and decision with empathy, honesty, and a genuine care for others.
