About Theresa
Theresa Lee-Whiting is a seasoned music director, educator, and composer with a lifelong dedication to the art of music. Her musical journey began at age 10 with guitar and quickly expanded into a broad foundation in performance, composition, and vocal music. Over the course of her career, she has developed a strong reputation for her leadership in church music and her commitment to using music as a form of service, education, and community connection.
For more than 25 years, Theresa has served in church music ministry in Binghamton, New York, where she currently holds the position of Director of Music Ministries at Tabernacle United Methodist Church. In this role, she directs choirs, composes arrangements, and creates original works that enhance worship and engage congregations. She also leads choirs at two churches and facilitates a weekly women’s choir at the Broome County Jail as part of her outreach efforts, using music to foster healing, expression, and connection in diverse community settings.
Theresa holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education with a Vocal Emphasis and Composition from West Virginia University and a Master of Music in Dual Degree studies in Choral Conducting and Music History & Literature from Binghamton University. She is especially proud of her original art song compositions and song cycles, several of which have been performed and recorded on YouTube. Through her work as a conductor, composer, and educator, she continues to contribute meaningfully to both sacred and community music landscapes.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a lifelong passion for music. From an early age, music has been a constant and driving force in my life, shaping both my personal and professional path. That enduring connection has given me the dedication and resilience to continue growing as a musician, educator, and director, and it is ultimately what motivates me to keep creating, performing, and sharing music with others.
