Her Interview

Ten minutes with Tia

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would definitely attribute my success to just my faith in God, definitely giving my life to Christ and just turning everything around, realizing what I'm good at and what I want to do, and the legacy that I want to leave behind. I have a daughter and I want her to be able to look up to me.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I've ever received is probably just not to take any type of criticisms personally. I don't carry the spirit of offense. Just take it with a grain of salt and always be willing to see other perspectives because you're writing to different personalities.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

The best career advice I could give is to just never give up and stay on the course. Don't take any breaks because life might pass you by. Stay focused on your goals, internships, always be willing to learn and be surrounded by people that you can learn from because your surroundings will define where you're headed.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenges right now are the advancement of technology and AI trying to replace writers, trying to balance the need for technology as well as human interaction. There's also a generation gap because Gen Xers and baby boomers aren't ready to retire so it doesn't leave millennials a lot of space for growth. Opportunities include internal communications for employee engagement and organizational transparency, content marketing and storytelling, digital and social media strategy, analytics to reach audiences more effectively while measuring impact, and the growing need for strategic communication that only humans can provide.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

In work, growth, purpose, and work-life balance are important. In personal life, faith slash spirituality is important to me, and also perseverance, just staying resilient through challenges.
