Tiairyn Taylor, who goes by Tia, is a seasoned sales and revenue growth leader with over a decade of experience in life and health insurance, healthcare sales, and highly regulated environments. She currently serves as a Policy Sales Manager, where she specializes in leading remote teams, driving performance through KPI driven systems, and building scalable strategies across ACA, Medicare, and life insurance lines of business. Her leadership is rooted in balancing compliance, operational excellence, and sustainable revenue growth while consistently developing high performing teams.

Tia’s path into insurance was unexpected. While she was familiar with the industry through her father’s work with Primerica, it was not her original career focus. During her time at Texas A&M University, she and her husband both experienced job layoffs, prompting a move to Omaha, Nebraska. There, she was recruited through the local workforce system and began her career with Mutual of Omaha, where she quickly distinguished herself as a top performer, peer mentor, and trainer, later advancing into annuities focused roles.

After returning to Austin, Texas, Tia continued her career with GoHealth, transitioning from sales into leadership. This shift solidified her passion for developing others and helping individuals gain clarity and confidence in their careers.

Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to vision, resilience, and discipline. I’ve always been someone who sets high standards for myself and refuses to stop dreaming, no matter the circumstances. One of the biggest principles I live by is writing things down and making them plain being intentional about where I’m going and aligning my actions with that vision.

My journey hasn’t been easy. I’ve experienced significant adversity early in life, and those experiences forced me to develop strength, independence, and a deep sense of responsibility at a young age. Rather than allowing those challenges to define me, I made a decision to build a life rooted in stability, growth, and purpose for myself and for my family.

What has sustained me is my ability to stay grounded. I prioritize my mental and emotional well being through reflection, writing, and daily time with God. That discipline keeps me focused, centered, and able to lead with clarity, even in high pressure environments.

Professionally, I’ve learned how to turn vision into execution. After being laid off, I didn’t operate from fear I operated from clarity. I mapped out exactly what I wanted next, stayed consistent, and trusted my process. That focus led to multiple opportunities and ultimately to the role I’m in today.

At the core, my success comes from a combination of faith, intentionality, and the ability to rise every single time no matter what I face.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received is: be intentional about where you’re going don’t just work hard, work with direction.

Early in my career, I realized that effort alone doesn’t guarantee growth. What truly makes the difference is having a clear vision, understanding your value, and aligning your actions with the outcomes you want. That means setting goals, tracking performance, and being willing to advocate for yourself.

I’ve applied that by being very deliberate about the roles I pursue, the skills I build, and the impact I create. Instead of waiting for opportunities, I position myself for them whether that’s through developing leadership capabilities, driving measurable results, or stepping into challenges others may avoid.

That advice shifted my mindset from simply doing the job to building a career with purpose and it’s been a key driver in how I’ve grown into leadership roles.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be bold enough to want more and disciplined enough to go get it.

Don’t shrink your goals to fit your circumstances. Expand your mindset to match the life you’re called to live. Write your vision down, make it plain, and move like it’s already yours. This industry will test you, but it will also reward you if you’re willing to stay consistent, build your confidence, and own your value.

I’m living proof that where you start does not determine where you finish. I’ve faced real adversity, and there were moments in my life where the odds were not in my favor. But I made a decision that my future would not be defined by my past it would be defined by my vision, my faith, and my actions.

So my advice is simple: don’t play small. Don’t wait for permission. And don’t let anyone convince you that what you want is too big.

There is space for you at the table but more importantly, you have the power to build your own.

Walk in faith. Move with intention. And never stop until the life you wrote down becomes the life you’re living.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in the insurance industry right now is affordability and market instability. We’re seeing rising medical costs across the board, which is putting pressure on carriers, reducing margins, and ultimately impacting what consumers can afford.

On top of that, changes in ACA subsidies and increasing premiums are making it harder for individuals to maintain coverage, leading to enrollment drops and a more complex sales environment.

At the same time, the Medicare space is becoming more competitive and compressed. Slower growth, policy changes, and reimbursement pressures are forcing organizations to operate more efficiently while still delivering value to members.

But with those challenges comes opportunity.

We are in a major transformation moment. Technology especially AI and data-driven systems is reshaping how we sell, service, and retain clients. Organizations that embrace digital tools, predictive analytics, and personalized customer experiences are gaining a significant competitive advantage.

There’s also a growing need for strong leadership. As the market becomes more complex, companies need leaders who can balance compliance, performance, and people development while still driving revenue.

For me, that’s where the opportunity is. The individuals and organizations that can adapt quickly, stay customer focused, and lead with both strategy and empathy are the ones who will win in this next phase of the industry.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that ground me are faith, balance, and service.

Mental and emotional well-being are incredibly important to me because I’ve had to be intentional about protecting my peace. I make it a priority to stay connected to God daily those quiet moments, even something as simple as my time in the shower, are sacred to me. That’s where I realign, reflect, and make sure I’m pouring into myself so I can show up fully for everything and everyone else in my life.

I’ve learned that you can’t lead effectively, love fully, or grow consistently if you’re running on empty. So balance is not optional for me it’s a discipline. This year, I made a commitment to pour back into myself, to rediscover joy, and to do things that make me feel alive. Stepping out and dancing at the Austin Spurs halftime show was a reminder that I’m allowed to take up space, to express myself, and to enjoy the life I’ve worked so hard to build.

I also value presence being fully there for my family, creating meaningful moments with my husband and children, and making time for the things that bring us together. Success, to me, isn’t just professional it’s the life I’m building outside of work as well.

And finally, I believe deeply in service. I don’t separate who I am from what I give. Whether it’s through volunteering, tithing, or simply being available to those around me, I live with the mindset that I am the church. If someone is connected to me and in need, I show up. Giving isn’t an obligation it’s who I am.

At the core, I strive to live a life that is aligned, intentional, and impactful where I’m not just achieving, but also growing, giving, and truly living.
