Her Story
About Tiana
Tiana Moore has built a career in property management spanning approximately two decades, beginning immediately after high school and continuing across four different companies. Her expertise lies primarily in Section 8 and Section 42 affordable housing programs, complemented by five years of experience in commercial property management. Before settling into this path, she spent three years managing a homeless shelter, where she guided unhoused individuals toward stable housing and employment — work that mirrored many of the operational skills she would later apply in property management.
Today, Tiana oversees a portfolio of roughly 360 units, managing the full scope of day-to-day operations including accounts payable and receivable, rent collection, three-way reconciliations, comparative rent reporting, and monthly compliance inspections for Section 8 properties. She began her career as an assistant property manager and was promoted to property manager early on, a trajectory she credits to hard work and a refusal to give up even during difficult stretches. She is currently working toward her real estate license, aiming to expand her career into home sales.
Outside of her professional achievements, Tiana is deeply committed to family and faith. She serves as a foster mother, having cared for her foster son since birth and now co-parenting him alongside his biological mother following her recovery. Tiana has also given back to her community by organizing a fundraiser and 5K run for cancer research that raised more than $10,000, and she has been recognized as a featured honoree by Influential Women for 2026. She attributes much of her strength and success to an early life of responsibility and an enduring closeness with God.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Tiana
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to being raised with a great deal of independence from a young age, including taking on the responsibility of caring for my younger brothers while my mother battled multiple sclerosis. Having to step up and care for my family so early in life taught me resilience and responsibility. I've also always stayed close to God, leaning on my faith to keep me strong and guided through every challenge and every promotion along the way.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I've received is to never stop learning. That mindset has carried me a long way throughout my career, and I believe you should never reach a point where you feel you're done growing professionally.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage young women to give this field a genuine chance and not give up, because it is truly a rewarding career. I love what I do so much that I could do it with my eyes closed. There will be moments of stress and pressure, but sticking with it pays off. I started as an assistant property manager and was quickly promoted to property manager because I worked hard and stayed committed. My advice is simple: work hard, stick with it, and don't give up.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Having worked for four different companies, I've found that it's genuinely difficult to re-enter this field once you leave it. There are typically only two to three positions available in a property management office — a leasing agent, an assistant manager, and a property manager — and once someone secures one of those roles, they often hold it for 15, 20, even 30 years. My advice to anyone who lands one of these positions is to hold onto it, because getting back in once you're out is a real challenge.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Family is probably the most important value in my life. I'm a foster mother to a son I've had since birth, and I've come to understand that family doesn't have to mean blood relation — you can build your own family, and that's exactly what I've done with him. His biological mother has since gotten clean and sober and regained custody, and the two of us remain close; I still help co-parent, and he spends two nights a week at my house. Between family and my faith in God, those are the two things that matter most to me, both personally and professionally.
