About Tiara

Tiara Kelley brings a diverse professional background spanning criminal justice, healthcare, and customer service. She has spent five years at the Hamilton County Justice Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, while also gaining experience in hospital settings and remote customer service roles. Inspired by her mother's work in healthcare and her father's murder when she was young, Tiara transitioned from initial studies in medical coding and billing to pursuing a bachelor's degree in criminal justice at Southern New Hampshire University, where she has two semesters left and has made the Dean's List multiple times. She holds HIPAA certification and CPR training. As a single mother of two and the first in her family to pursue higher education, Tiara attributes her success to her children and her determination not to give up. She values diversity and strong work ethics in the workplace, appreciating environments where colleagues can laugh and look forward to their days. Tiara volunteers with Every Child Succeeds, St. Jude's Hospital, Cincinnati Children's Hospital, and Shriners Hospital for the children. She advises young women entering the field to never give up despite challenges, noting that opportunities in criminal justice extend beyond policing to areas like private investigation and forensics. Her supervisor once praised her as a superwoman for maintaining professionalism and positivity regardless of personal struggles.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Tiara

01What do you attribute your success to?

My motivation really comes from my kids and my determination not to give up. I keep striving because I'm a single mother and the only one in my family pursuing a degree.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

My supervisor told me I was one of her favorite and strongest employees because I never bring my personal struggles to work. She called me a superwoman for always coming in smiling no matter what I was going through outside of work.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Even though there might be different mishaps, trials, and tribulations, just never give up. Your crown might tilt, but straighten it up. Keep going. Don't give up.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge in criminal justice is police officers lacking proper education and knowledge, as many only have a high school diploma. The greatest opportunity is the wide range of paths available beyond policing, such as private investigation and forensics.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Diversity and strong work ethics are key. It's important to have a comfortable work environment where you can laugh and look forward to going to work, especially during hard times when many people are struggling.
