Her Interview
Ten minutes with Tierra
01What do you attribute your success to?
First and foremost, I give honor to God, my Lord and Savior, who strengthens me and guides my steps. He protects me in rooms I am not in, carries me when I am weak, and directs me when I lack understanding. I recognize that every opportunity, lesson, and achievement is rooted in His grace and guidance.
I attribute my success also to resilience, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to take initiative ingrained in me by my grandfather. Throughout my career, I have remained committed to getting things done while continuously learning and improving. Strong communication, active listening, and meaningful human connections have helped me understand others’ needs and create learning experiences that make a lasting impact. I have also been blessed to work with leaders who recognized my strengths, encouraged my growth, and trusted me with opportunities to expand my skills and leadership.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Ask questions and don’t be afraid to question the norm.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I encourage young women to keep Jesus Christ at the center of everything they do and to trust Him as their shepherd in all things. Do not rely only on your own understanding; seek His guidance, allow Him to order your steps, and trust that He can lead you with wisdom, protection, and purpose even when the path is unclear.
As you grow personally and professionally, find and use your voice with confidence. Volunteer for opportunities that challenge you, even when they feel outside your comfort zone, because those experiences often produce the greatest growth. Build genuine relationships, expand your professional network, remain curious and open to learning from different perspectives, and lead with compassion. As your career progresses, remember that leadership is not about carrying everything yourself. Trust others, delegate when appropriate, and continue learning from every experience while staying grounded in faith, humility, and purpose.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the greatest opportunities in healthcare is the continued shift toward value-based care, which has the potential to improve patient outcomes and create more meaningful healthcare experiences. At the same time, organizations must address challenges such as social determinants of health, rebuilding patient trust, improving health literacy, and closing operational training gaps in fast-paced environments. Learning and development professionals have an important role in helping employees understand not only the processes they perform, but also why those processes matter and how they contribute to better outcomes for patients and communities.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that guide me are rooted first in my faith in God and my desire to live a life led by His Spirit, with Jesus at the center. Through that foundation, I strive to lead with caring, curiosity, and commitment—building genuine connections, remaining open to different perspectives, and meeting people with humility and understanding.
I am committed to continuous growth, thoughtful reflection, and meaningful service. Whether through learning, leadership, or supporting others, my goal is to make a lasting impact while allowing my actions, decisions, and relationships to reflect faith, compassion, purpose, and love.
