Her Story
About Tiffany
I've always been a nurturer since I was a little kid, caring for people and things like my Barbie dolls and teddy bears. When I was about 12 years old, my father's sister became very ill and developed stage 4 kidney failure. She came home from the hospital with skilled nursing care needs, including drain changes in her arm. Her son wasn't comfortable with blood and medical procedures, but I just had a thing for nurturing people. At 12, I was literally doing wound care and not thinking twice about it - I just knew I had to take care of her. That was the moment I had a calling for being in the medical field. I started in healthcare in 2005 as an admin, then became a certified medical assistant in 2007, and advanced to office manager in 2016. My main expertise is as a patient care relationship coordinator - I have a way with patients, they just click with me. I can literally turn a sad patient into the happiest person by the time they leave the office. In 2018, I was diagnosed with a meningioma on the front part of my brain and had to have a craniotomy completed in March of 2019. Now I'm medically cleared and a brain tumor survivor. To accomplish all this after that is just remarkable. I'm graduating next Thursday from Liberty University with my Bachelor's of Science in Health Sciences, which feels like a tremendous achievement given everything I've overcome.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Tiffany
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would attribute my success, honestly, to my mom and my dad, just family. I would say family.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Never settle, but yet at the same time, just get to know yourself.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenges, honestly, are the compensation as far as salary and burnout. Those are the two challenges right now in the field itself - just burnout and salary. The cost of living is very much going up, and trying to find a balance to be able to afford everything in an honest spectrum right now is kind of hard.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity, honesty, being trustworthy, but also just being genuine.
