Her Story
About Tiffany
I started my career as an editorial journalist with a degree in journalism, writing for newspapers and magazines. I then ran a women's trend-focused newsletter in Atlanta for about four and a half years, where I had the opportunity to write, edit, and hire a stable of freelance writers, creators, and partners. Through that experience, I developed a deep understanding of how brands can tell their stories in ways that capture public attention. I've always had a vested interest in businesses doing the best job they can telling their story. What I discovered is that what often trips brands and companies up isn't what they're offering, which is usually amazing, but how they're packaging it. Now, as a creative consultant, I work as a thought partner for marketing and brand founders, usually ones that are mission or vision-led. I help them bring the insides of their brand's thinking, goals, purpose, and offerings into all the strategy and pieces that the world gets to see. I help them turn their brand thinking from the inside out. Previously, I had a wonderful in-house startup job in New York where I was managing a team of about 14 people. Currently, I'm working as a one-woman shop and consultant, which has given me so much freedom and agency over my day. Right now, I'm really focused on becoming the creative director of my own life, finding that beauty in the balance between work, clients, energy, and ideas while living the one life I have.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Tiffany
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my sense of curiosity. I genuinely am excited about learning what has gotten other people to where they are and what has inspired people to do what they're doing. When I've had opportunities to sit in the room with people and hear all of the things that have added up to who they are, it's never the same story. You can often walk away with something that can inspire you, too. That curiosity and genuine interest in understanding people's journeys and what makes them tick has been fundamental to my drive and success.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I've ever gotten has really been to get to know myself. It's very easy to be overwhelmed by voices in the world and voices in the room telling you what you're good at, or telling you what you're good at so that you can help them achieve what they want to. The better you can get at tuning into yourself and figuring out what makes you tick, what your goals and your vision are for yourself, the better off you'll be. You're allowed to be ambitious, you are allowed to want things for your life, and you better go out and pursue them. But if you don't get to know yourself, you get swept up in a whole lot of other stuff. Figure out what you like and tune into yourself.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Figure out what you like. By that, I mean it's very easy to be overwhelmed by voices in the world and voices in the room telling you what you're good at, or telling you what you're good at so that you can help them achieve what they want to. The better you can get at tuning into yourself and figuring out what makes you tick, and what your goals and your vision are for yourself, the better. You're allowed to be ambitious, you are allowed to want things for your life, and you better go out and pursue them. But I think if you don't get to know yourself, you get swept up in a whole lot of other stuff. So really focus on understanding yourself first.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Getting quiet and tuning into what I'm supposed to be hearing is incredibly important to me. I lean on prayer and meditation all the time as practices for getting to know myself. I try to start every day outside because I spend a lot of time on my screen, on Zoom, on phone calls and Slack, and that's always going to be there, but if you can set your energy right at the beginning of the day, I find that I'm much happier and in flow. Nature, prayer, and meditation are spaces where I always feel like the noise kind of dials down and the things that I'm supposed to be tuning into and hearing gets turned up. Right now, I'm really focused on becoming the creative director of my own life, finding that beauty in the balance. You only have so many hours in the day and you only have one life to live, so finding balance between work, clients, energy, ideas, and personal life is my goal.
