Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to God, family, and friends. When I didn't think that I could finish my bachelor's degree, and there were times that I wanted to give up, those three were my guiding force to continue on. They kept me going through the challenging moments and helped me push through to achieve my goals.

Q

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

When I was a manager, my mentor gave me advice that has stayed with me: Be the type of leader that you would want to be led by. This guidance shaped how I approach leadership and working with others throughout my career.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Do not take everything to heart. The foundation that you are pouring will lead you wherever your heart desires. It's important to stay focused on building your foundation and not let every challenge or criticism derail you from your path.

Q

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge I see is that those who need our services sometimes will not apply because they've heard stereotypes, like 'I make too much money.' I've always been told that you can only get two answers: yes or no, but you have to apply. This challenge isn't just within Medicaid - it's true for anything in life. If you do not attempt or try or ask, you'll never get those answers. People need to understand that they should apply and find out for themselves rather than assuming they don't qualify based on what they've heard.

Q

What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values that are most important to me are compassion and empathy, and they transfer over to my family as well. I believe you should always have compassion and empathy, because those seem to be two of the things that are somehow lacking nowadays in the world.
