Her Story

About Tina

I've dedicated over 20 years to working in insurance authorizations, specifically for orthopedics and spine surgeons. My main focus every day is getting insurance authorizations for surgeries, and I've built a reputation for being able to get precertifications that other people are not able to get. This is what I consider my most notable professional achievement - my ability to navigate the complex insurance landscape and secure approvals where others struggle. I earned my associate's degree in applied science in 2008, which provided the foundation for my career. What drives me is staying motivated and keeping myself grounded with the help of my family. I'm always on top of my work and rarely miss a day - I have to be very, very sick in order to miss work because my work ethic is very important to me. Right now, one of the biggest challenges in my field is dealing with insurance companies, which can drive me crazy, but I've learned not to let the job stress me out and to take it one day at a time.

Ten minutes with Tina

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to staying motivated - I just keep myself motivated every day. My family is also a huge part of it because they help me stay grounded. That combination of self-motivation and having my family's support to keep me centered has been key to everything I've accomplished in my career.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I ever received was to not let the job stress you out. You have to take it one day at a time. That's been so important for me throughout my career - learning to manage the stress and just focus on getting through each day without letting the pressure overwhelm you.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice would be to hold yourself accountable for everything that you do and take pride in your job. I know the new generation is not as motivated as the old generation is, and I don't mean to sound ugly about it, but accountability and pride in your work are essential. You need to own your responsibilities and really care about the quality of what you're doing every single day.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge in my field right now is dealing with insurance companies. They drive me crazy. Navigating the insurance authorization process and working with insurance companies on a daily basis is definitely the most difficult part of what we face in this industry.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Work ethic is very important to me. I'm always on top of things, and I hardly ever miss a day of work - I have to be very, very sick in order to miss a day. My work ethic and reliability are core values that I live by, and they're central to both my professional and personal life.
